Localization has been a lot of headaches for developers. Creating and managing localization strings can be challenging at times. What about having an all-in-one tool to manage everything and make working with translations easier? Let me introduce you to Tolgee.

Tolgee is an all-in-one localization tool for your projects. Tolgee eliminates the need to select the appropriate i18n library, editor, and platform. It includes everything you need to localize your project. This article will explain how to manage API keys for your Tolgee project.

Creating a project

First, let's create a project.

Step-1: Login to your Tolgee app. You can either connect with your email/password or directly authenticate your account through Github. For this tutorial, I will be directly authenticating my account via Github.
You'll be prompted to authenticate your GitHub account; simply click the authorize button to advance to the next stage. \n
Step- 2: You will then be able to see the projects dashboard; click on + ADD located at the top-right corner of that dashboard.

Step-3: Name your project, choose the owner, add at least one language, choose base language and click save. Your project will be ready!

Create Project

You should be able to see something similar to this once you've created a demo project.

Managing API keys

Tolgee enables you to better manage API keys for integrations. You can choose what you want to allow and what you don't want to allow. For example, if you don't want to add the uploading screenshots feature to integration, you can disable it while creating an API key.

Let's create an API key.

Step- 1: Click on the User Profile Icon in the top-right corner -> Go to API keys.

Step-2: Click + icon on the bottom located at the bottom on.
Step-3: Now that you have the option of selecting several scopes, go ahead and choose all of them before clicking Save.
You should be able to see your API key after specifying the scopes and saving it, and your API key dashboard will look something like this (I will be deleting this key later on but remember that do not expose these API keys)

Let's understand this by creating a sample application.

Create an index.html file and paste this code.

(Replace your_secret_api_key'with your API key)

Launch your browser and navigate to this HTML file. You will see something similar to this.

Hold ALT and click hello_world. The Tolgee UI will open. Create a translation.

You will see your translation rendered.

Now, let's say you don't want to allow editing translation with your integration. You can control this with your API key.

Go to API keys manager dashboard.
Click on the edit icon.
Uncheck the translations.edit and Save.
Now go back to your sample app -> refresh the tab -> ALT + click on the word. See, you can't edit the translations from your integration.

That's it! In the same way, you can limit your integration capabilities.
