Git and Github

As the project source codes are hosted on Github, it’s important to have a good understanding of how Github works. But primarily let’s talk about Git. Git is a free and open-source distributed versioning control system for software. This is the most used versioning control system tool used in the world. But why Git?

Git tracks the change you make to files through commits and commits messages: you can have a record of all the changes that have been made, you can easily revert to a specific version of the project but also, it makes collaboration easier.

Open source jargons

Let’s quickly define some terms you’ll need to know when collaborating or contributing to Chatwoot repositories.

Commit

‌A fork is simply a copy of a repository in your account. Then, you can make changes without affecting the original project.
